Texas flood of live updates: more than 100 dead in the state, 11 missing from the mystic camp

Senator Ted Cruz, a Texas Republican, called flood sequelae at the Texas Mystic camp, where at least 27 campers and counselors died amid floods, “the most horrible I have seen.”

“The water increased 7 and 8 feet … The cabins are cleaned, all the furniture has been taken by the current,” David told Lindsey in ABC News Live Prime after traveling the camp. “It’s heartbreaking.”

Cruz said his daughters have gone to summer camps in Kerr County, in the country of Hill in Texas, for 10 years and said that last week, his wife had collected his youngest daughter of the camp.

For now, the approach focuses on the search and rescue, Cruz said, but in the coming weeks and months, he said he hopes to take a look at the timeline of what happened and when the warnings came out to see if something could have done better.

“There is no doubt, none of us, if we had a time machine and we could step on it at this time, we would run to the cabins of those girls and take them out of the cabins before the waters of the floods rose,” he said. “And it is worth asking, what could have been done differently?”

Cruz, who was on a previously planned trip with his family in Greece on Friday when the waters of the floods uploaded, said he was working on the phones almost immediately, calling the governor, other state officials and even President Donald Trump.

“You know, look, people love to play politics. I was abroad on a family vacation when this happened. It was almost immediately on the phone,” Cruz said, and added, “and then I reserved a flight and returned.”

Cruz said he left Sunday morning and arrived in Texas on Sunday night.
