Amtrak passengers evacuated after the train darkens in the Baltimore without energy tunnel, AC

A regional train from the Northeast of Amtrak to Boston was evacuated on Monday after the passengers were stranded for more than an hour in a dark tunnel near the Baltimore Penn station without energy and air conditioning.

Train 94 experienced a malfunction of the locomotive that left them without energy, said Laura Evans, a passenger on board, ABC News. Evans said the energy was completely out and there were problems on the train from the beginning, without air conditioning in several cars, and added that the train had experienced energy problems before the exit.

In the video obtained by ABC News, passengers were seen by fanning in the dark, visibly uncomfortable in suffocating conditions.

An on -board announcement informed passengers to be evacuated from the tunnel and would provide alternative transport options. “Once we leave the tunnel, let’s go back to the platform, there will be other media [of transportation]”The announcement declared.

At 5:02 PM ET, passengers had been safely evacuated.

Amtrak confirmed the incident in a statement to ABC News. “After a malfunction of the locomotive, the passengers on the 94 train of Amtrak were transferred to the Baltimore station and then provided trains service to their final destination.”

Passengers on board received “snacks” and bottled water, Amtrak said. “We apologize to our clients for discomfort,” said Amtrak.

The incident occurred when a wave of dangerous heat grabs the east of the United States, and the heat index is expected to reach 107 degrees in Philadelphia and loom walking around 100 degrees in much of the region. According to centers for disease control and prevention, extreme heat is considered the most fatal danger related to climate in the United States.
