2025 key election approach with Trump’s approval, Maps of Congress at stake: what to see in November

With less than two months until the day of the elections, this year’s elections, ranging from mayor competitions and governor of Hot Button to a vote on new maps of Congress, are scheduled to increase as candidates begin to make their final releases to voters.
And even without presidential candidates on the electoral ballot, some elections of this fall could serve as squeak on how Americans feel about the second administration of Donald Trump or the future of the Democratic Party.
These are some of the key races to see:
New York City Mayor’s career
The New York Mayor’s career was news after a relative newcomer won the crowded primary Democrats in June, and somehow represents the fight between the progressive and moderate wings of the party, since he tries to correct the course after the losses in 2024.
State assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist who campaigns on a progressive economic platform that caused a dip with social networks and smart campaigns, has remained the favorite since the Democratic primaries were secured. But Mamdani has faced a violent reaction about the viability of his current or previous proposals and views on surveillance and Israel; Some prominent democratic officials have not yet supported it.

Former governor Andrew Cuomo, trying a political return as independent after giving up in 2021 amid sexual harassment and accusations of inappropriate behavior, argues that he has the greatest experience to face Trump and help the city. He has fought to gain impulse from his primary Democratic loss.
The head of Eric Adams, who announced that he would apply as an independent after the federal bribery charges were dismissed, is asking the voters to give him four more years to continue turning the city. But faces the discontent of New Yorkers who believe it can be too linked to Trump.
Adams said Friday that he will continue his commitment to re -election after the reports that Trump’s advisors have been making efforts in recent weeks to persuade him that he leaves the race.
Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, separately, has rejected calls to leave the race and argued that it is above the fray of the other candidates. Sliwa ran against Adams in the Mayor elections of 2021.
Virginia and New Jersey Governor Carreras
The only governor races in the country are in Virginia and New Jersey and are attracting national attention, heavy external expenditure and interest as early indicators of how the intermediate works of 2026 could be shaken.
In Virginia, the Democratic representative Abigail Spanberger, a former CIA officer, faces the Lieutenant Republican governor Winsome Earle-Sears in a contest that could give the Democrats their first state triumph since 2013. Whoever wins will also become the first governor of Virginia.

Spanberger has raised more than $ 27 million and secured the support of the Benevolent Association of the Virginia Police. Earle-Sears is the first black woman chosen throughout the state.
In New Jersey, the American Democratic representative Mikie Sherrill and former Republican Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli compete in a state that has not chosen the same party three consecutive terms since 1961, with affordability and central taxes for race. Trump’s incursions with Garden State voters could be tested in November, since Republicans point out last year’s presidential results as a sign that the State has become more favorable for the Republican Party.
California 50 proposition on your Map of Congress
The Californians will vote in November about whether to adopt a map of the redrawn Congress, which could make five districts of the United States representatives more favorable for Democrats, as reprisals for the new Republican maps that transmit to the law in Texas in the mid -decade, despite the fact that new lines are generally drawn after each census.
Governor Gavin Newsom, considered a presidential hope of 2028, has pressed for the measure, saying that the new Texas map means that Democrats have to respond in kind. Republican and others legislators, including the actor and former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, have argued that the movement harms the ability of voters to choose who represents them and throws more fuel to the flames of a “redistribution war of districts” between the red and blue states.

Special elections for open seats with Congress
Several vacant seats of the American house are scheduled for special elections this fall. Since the Republicans had only a narrow majority, the results could shape the power balance that is directed at 2026.
In the 11th district of Virginia, voters will select a successor of the late representative Gerry Connolly on September 9, with James Walkinshaw, Democrat Walkinshaw, the Fairfax County supervisor and the former Cabinet Chief of Connolly, facing the republican veteran of the army and former agent of the FBI Stewart Whitson.
The seventh district of Arizona will take the elections of September 23 after the death of the representative. Raúl Grijalva, with his daughter Adelita Grijalva, Daniel Butierez and Eduardo Quintana.
In Texas, a contest of November 4 will occupy the Seat of the 18th district unemployed by the late Sylvester Turner.
And the seventh district of Tennessee will celebrate a general election of December 2 after a primary of October 7.
